About Daryl

He is a small animal of unknown origin. Mostly tongue. Surprisingly affectionate.

He has this wild deranged aura about him, he arrived this way and has shown no indication of changing. The tongue is permanently extended and he seems unbothered by this, as he has made no effort to retract it

His eyes constantly move independently of one another and of any discernible logic beyond the occasionally coordinated blink. .Sometimes i wonder what he is trying to look at and honestly I'm not sure i want to know , but occasionally they both seem to just focus and start watching me.

The Eyes

Two LCD displays are used to provide the animated eyes with human like hazel iris to give an uncanny valley feeling. they occasionally will blink in unison showing that while they appear independent there are connected.

I did experiment with lenses to add more depth as well as a more human like Scala (white of the eye) but this was later removed.

Movement Detection & Remote Control

Daryl can be monitored and controllable remotely over WIFI using a built in Web Interface. This was built to allow for testing and debugging during the creation.

Daryl includes a hidden MMWave Radar that can sense and track up to 3 people at once. In its default state Daryl’s eyes will randomly roam the room until it senses a person within 6m, his eyes will then slowly follow that person until they go out of range. When no one is present they will go back to their random independent movement. The radar is disabled by default.
